  1. Phosgard Plus Fertilizer

Phosgard Plus Fertilizer

Product

Description:

Phosgard Plus, a unique liquid fertilizer, can help farmers improve the effi ciency of their fertilizer programs by balancing the readily available phosphate form and the time-released phosphite form of phosphorous for more uniform nutrient availability. It was developed by JH Biotech, Inc., using its patented technology. Unlike phosphates, which are tied up in the soil, the phosphite ion remains in the soil solution and is easily taken up by plant roots and foilage. In the soil and inside the plant, phosphite is slowly converted to phosphate, making Phosgard Plus act as a slow-release phosphorus source. Phosphite boosts the plant’s immune system, increases plant vigor and growth and stimulates root development for more productive top growth. Phosgard Plus is eff ective through both foliar and soil applications on any crop to provide maximum uptake of phosphorus. It is ideal for fast-growing crops, like lettuce and spinach and helps improve quality of fruit-bearing crops, such as strawberries, apples and peaches.

university news

university of arizona

The University of Arizona has a PhD student working in the area of aquaponics.

Aquaponics is similar to hydroponics but aquaponics adds fish to the nutrient solu-

tion.  This means that the nutrients added to the system must be non-toxic for the fish

and not lead to any detrimental build up of toxins in the fish meat.  Therefore organic

materials were sought for testing in the new, state-of-the-art indoor system.  In their

studies, Biomin magnesium, Biomin manganese, Biomin Zinc, Biomin Iron, Mixwell

and Humax were added to the system.  The humic acid in Humax helped raise the

nutrient solution pH which had a tendency to become acidic (low pH) because of the

fish in the system.  The results of the study were quite positive and will be published

in the Fall of 2009.

university of tennessee

JH Biotech has been working on an organic nematode control product.  Studies

conducted in-house were very positive.  This material was sent to the University

of Tennessee for further evaluation.  Preliminary testing in the greenhouse showed

favorable results.  The researcher indicated that this material would be advanced to

field testing this summer in cotton and soybeans.  There is great interest and a good

market for alternative, organic nematode products in the U.S. and Europe.

university of california

Researchers at the University of California in Davis tested 22 formulations of organic

and conventional zinc products applied to the foliage of greenhouse grown Arabidop-

sis plants.  Arabidopsis is a model plant used in research because its genetics is well

known.  Later, zinc concentrations were measured in the reproductive tissues as an

indicator of zinc mobility within the plants.  JH Biotech’s Biomin zinc performed the

best of the organic zinc products tested.  This study is currently in publication.
